Decorations are down and neatly put away.  My Harry Connick Christmas CD’s back in their cases and the last tamale is gone.  Christmas is officially over, but not for me…I can still hear Rosemary Clooney, Ella Fitzgerald and the Eagles singing in my ear or the refrain of Jubilant Sykes perfectly belting out “I Wonder as I Wander” which had quickly become my favorite Christmas song because of its notably ‘jazz’ quality.

No, Virginia, Christmas is not over and as my little dog Jimmy with his snowman sweater and candy cane onesy that he wears all year around can attest, it is always before us.  I think we celebrate the birth of Christ more so in these troubled times and hold fast that much more tightly these days because it always has the ability to remind us of our Lord’s preeminence in our lives and that as Christmas comes along the world does indeed get a little bit softer.  We sing such amazing and theologically rich lyrics like,

God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our Saviour
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy

So, ultimately we remember His birth and take great joy in His salvation and…He comforts us and demonstrates His faithfulness in these very tough times.

With Love, Happy New Year.
