Oh, Amour!

Posted on February 14, 2011. Filed under: Love |

So, as a single woman who adores love songs, jazz, lavendar tulips…I would be remiss if I dind’t talk about Valentine’s Day.  I suppose if you’re not in a relationship, it does indeed point out in all its syrupy goodness that the rest of the world is in love and are in a club you can’t possibly understand where love is blind and violins fill the air with every rose-petaled step.

On a very serious, dare I say blasphemous, note, I was thinking about this subject of love and thought of Song of Solomon.  Without launching into a full expository fury, do recall that the tone of much of the Solomon is sensory, sensual even and very much brimming with expectation.  Anticipation of a dream and longing fulfilled the likes of which I have never known.  Perhaps the blasphemous portion of my thought comes when I think about the adulterous lives of some of the best writers and prophets of the Old Testament: David, Abraham, Solomon.  I think it’s just such a wonder and a bit of a pity that a man so wise and wealthy was not “successful” in love for “success” comes not from garnering the love of many wives and thousands of concubines, but in the care and nurturing of one woman, one choice, one union for life.  In God’s design for romantic love, success then comes from the courtship (not literally, sorry Josh Harris!), attainment, and consummation of a good woman’s love for the rest of your life.  Think of this, find it and it’s a good thing!

Find it and be the envy of Solomon!  Oh, ‘amour’!  To the glory of God…do all things.

As always, your friend,

Michelle.
